My Absence

Sorry, I have no access to a computer except the 1 hour allotments you get at the public library. SO NOT working for job hunting. Then my father still thinks that you walk into businesses and hand over your resume. I'm going crazy, I want a job but my known way of going about it is gone.

Give me suggestions, what should I do? Is that even done anymore, or do most companies want you to submit resumes online? Thanks.

Most of the people I know who've gotten jobs recently have been through temp agencies. Most of the big companies seem to want to take employees for a 'test drive' through the agency before hiring them full time.

Hope this helps!

My brother also just got hired for a full-time job after working with a temp agency. Best of luck!

I'm a new lurker, I've found www.askamanager.com to be very helpful.

Good luck - job searches are no fun!

LinkedIn is supposed to be an important part now.

In Mass we have state employment agencies. Much better computer access. See if such a thing exists nearby. Hang in there. Job hunting, moving and living with the 'rents are each stressful never mind all three! You'll get there.

Definitely online. That is the only way the company I work for accepts resumes or applications. They do use job service agencies where people without computer access can go and apply. My youngest son was looking for a job this past summer and when he walked into local restaurants or stores, he was told to apply on line. I know you are not looking for a job in those areas, it was just an example of current application processes. It also helps to have a resume designed especially for online posting. Google the subject. I did when I was redoing my resume recently. All kinds of tips about using key words in your resume that will be picked up by a search engine. I felt like a dinosaur. I really hope you find a fantastic job that motivates you and uses the wonderful knowledge and experience you have. Keep a positive attitude and remind yourself of the good things you have to offer as an employee. Good luck. I hope to attend the Costume Exhibit. Let me know if you are coming back to town to see it and want to meet up.
